Meta, short for metamorphosis, is a restaurant defined by evolution. While rooted in Korean cuisine, it transcends tradition, presenting a thoughtful reinterpretation that is both contemporary and deeply personal, one that reflects the journey of Sun Kim.
Under the direction of Sun Kim, Meta’s menu draws from his Korean heritage, refined. Each dish, a harmonious composition, innovative yet balanced, crafted with intention and guided by seasonality.
Born in Busan and raised in Seoul, Sun Kim's culinary journey began in his mother's Gamja-tang (감자탕) eatery, where he developed a deep appreciation for Korean flavours. His early kitchen experiences in Seoul (서울) laid the foundation for his culinary pursuits. At 26, driven by a desire to refine his skills, he moved to Sydney where he trained under the legendary Tetsuya Wakuda at Tetsuya’s. This mentorship continued at Waku Ghin in Singapore, where he further honed his craft.
In November 2015, Sun Kim opened Meta on Keong Saik Road. The restaurant quickly gained acclaim, earning its first Michelin star in 2017 and a second in 2024. Meta has been featured in Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants since 2021 and was awarded ‘The American Express One to Watch’ that very year.
In 2023, Meta entered a new chapter with a move to Mohamed Sultan Road. The relocation marked a natural progression in the restaurant’s evolution — offering a refreshed space that mirrors Chef Sun Kim’s growth while preserving the intimacy and philosophy that defined Meta from the start.
Meta's cuisine is a contemporary interpretation of Korean flavours, reflecting Sun Kim's heritage and global experiences. Signature dishes like Jeju abalone with kamtae and lily bulb showcase his commitment to seasonality and innovation .
Sun Kim continues to redefine Korean cuisine, blending tradition with innovation to create dishes that resonate globally.
